Who We Are

We are a networking campaign group - set up by residents, for residents across the boroughs. We were formed directly in response to London City Airport's application to expand flights to 120,000 per year after finding that many residents had not been consulted by LCA or Newham despite some being on the doorstep of the airport. Our aim was to block the expansion, and make sure that the communities affected are aware of and have access to accurate information.

Newham Council are the planning authority charged with considering any applications by London City Airport to expand flights within its masterplan. London City Airport (LCA) have a grand plan to increase flights to 120,000 in 2008 and 176,000 in the future. Essentially as the application is a major one, Planning aid for London advised FTF that Newham Council should have written to all households in the noise contours at the very minimum.

In reality there have been quite a few changes at LCA over the past few years, but residents have not been consulted by Newham. Just 3 years ago there were few jet planes flying in and out of this flood endangered airport...now residents suffer from around 90% of flights being jets, and the remaining propellor planes. Life has changed rather a lot over here in East /South East London Aviation land - now having windows or doors open is a luxury that can only happen for the 24 hours flight free time over the weekend due to the noise levels of 70db upwards to 97db.

Fight The Flights has been receiving legal advice for the past year and we will challenge any planning decision by the London Borough of Newham that is deemed to be unlawful.
